Complete renewal of the central IT infrastructure

Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis: Here I like to live! This is the motto of the district, which is home to approximately 102,000 people in its two landscapes, the Middle Rhine Valley and the Hunsrück. The district administration is divided into two divisions with a total of 18 departments. In addition, it includes the Legal Office, the Equal Opportunities Office, and the Auditing and Municipal Control Office. The district employs approximately 500 people.

THE CHALLENGE

The demands on the IT environment have changed significantly due to digitalization. New concepts are required. A stable and high-performance system architecture had to be designed and implemented for the Rhein-Hunsrück district administration. At the time of the contract award, the existing IT environment was not always stable and showed performance problems in applications, especially with Citrix.

THE SOLUTION

After a thorough analysis of the existing problems, K&P Computer’s experienced infrastructure team developed an efficient solution tailored to the requirements and cost structure, based on five high-performance HPE ProLiant servers. These servers now ensure maximum availability in the administration. An IBM FlashSystem 5035 provides optimized performance for heterogeneous workloads and the virtualized environment. The HPE SN3600B B-Series Fibre Channel Switch offers 32 Gbit Gen6 Fibre Channel (FC) connectivity in an ultra-compact 1U format with 8 to 24 ports, making it an excellent solution for enterprise applications that require higher throughput and lower latency. It is also a cost-effective option that makes sense for limited administrative budgets. Each host is also configured with 10Gb/s network ports to provide sufficient performance for all applications and clients.
