Successful license plausibility check
With over 65 years of experience in the field of metal processing, Karl Klein Ventilatorenbau is a sought-after manufacturer of centrifugal fans for commercial customers.
THE CHALLENGE
The Esslingen-based company was requested by Microsoft to carry out a license plausibility check within an eight-week deadline. This required a rapid inventory of all installed Microsoft products as well as the inspection and allocation of all license agreements. In the course of this, a future-oriented optimization of the license inventory was to take place. Karl Klein Ventilatorenbau decided to outsource this extensive project to K&P Computer so that it could continue to concentrate on its daily tasks and benefit from its expertise.
THE SOLUTION
On the basis of a workshop led by a team of K&P experts, the customer was brought up to date with the latest knowledge on the subject of licensing and a joint project plan was developed. With the help of a logon script, all client computers were recorded and checked. All server systems were entered manually. All volume license agreements and single-user licenses were viewed, proofs/invoices evaluated and assigned. The inventory was followed by the final license balance sheet. Karl Klein received a complete software asset management (SAM) report with all information on existing licenses, under- and over-licensing and corresponding optimization suggestions from the K&P experts. As a result, the necessary license certificates were subsequently submitted and accepted by Microsoft. The license plausibility check was successfully completed within the set deadline to the satisfaction of all parties.
