Router
What is a router?
A router is a network device that forwards data packets between different networks. It serves as a connection point between a local network (e.g. a home network) and the Internet. Routers use IP addresses to organize data traffic and ensure that information reaches the right recipients.
Functions and areas of application
Routers enable Internet connections to be shared, Wi-Fi networks to be set up and often offer additional security functions such as firewalls and VPN support. They are a central component of home networks, corporate networks and data centers. Modern router technologies such as dual-band WLAN or Quality of Service (QoS) optimize network performance and prioritize data traffic.
