Redundancy

What does redundancy mean?

Redundancy refers to the presence of additional components or systems that can take over in the event of a failure. In IT, redundancy is used to ensure the availability and reliability of services and systems. Examples are backup servers, double power supplies or mirrored hard disks (RAID).

Advantages and areas of application

Redundancy minimizes the risk of system failures and ensures that critical services continue to run even in the event of disruptions. It is particularly important in data centers, telecommunications networks and cloud services where there are high availability requirements. A well thought-out redundancy strategy increases reliability and protects companies from financial losses due to downtime.
