What is PaaS?

Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a cloud computing model that provides developers with a complete development and deployment environment without having to worry about the underlying infrastructure. PaaS provides tools and services for development, testing, deployment and management of applications, including databases, middleware and development frameworks.

PaaS enables rapid application developmentas the infrastructure is managed by the provider. It reduces the complexity and the costs for hardware and maintenance. PaaS is used in Start-ups, companies and development teams used to increase productivity and bring applications to market faster. Well-known PaaS platforms are Heroku, Google App Engine and Microsoft Azure App Services.
