Observability
What is observability?
Observability describes the ability to analyze the internal state of a system through external outputs such as logs, metrics and traces. While monitoring is primarily focused on recording predefined metrics, observability enables a deeper analysis of complex systems in order to identify unknown sources of error. This method is used particularly in modern, distributed IT infrastructures.
Why is observability important?
Observability enables companies to react more quickly to problems and investigate the causes of system failures in a more targeted manner. By combining various data sources such as logs and traces, IT teams gain deeper insights into the system architecture and can therefore identify performance problems at an early stage. Observability plays a crucial role, especially in cloud environments with microservices.
