Kerberos

What is Kerberos?

Kerberos is a network protocol that enables secure authentication of users and services within a network. It is based on a ticket system in which users receive a time-limited ticket that confirms their identity after logging in once. This protocol is often used in corporate networks and Windows domains to ensure secure communication between different systems.

Advantages and areas of application

Kerberos provides strong encryption and prevents passwords from being transmitted over the network in plain text. It improves security and reduces the risk of replay attacks or man-in-the-middle attacks. Companies use Kerberos to control access to file servers, applications and databases, especially in large IT infrastructures with many users.
