Intrusion Detection System (IDS)
What is an intrusion detection system?
An intrusion detection system (IDS) is a security solution that monitors network or system activities in order to detect suspicious activities or attacks. The IDS analyzes data traffic in real time and alerts the IT department to potential security incidents. There are two main types of IDS: Network-based IDS (NIDS), which monitors traffic on the network, and host-based IDS (HIDS), which analyzes activity on individual devices.
Advantages and possible applications
IDS systems help to detect and stop unauthorized access and malware activities at an early stage. They provide an additional layer of security and contribute to compliance with regulations such as the GDPR. IDS is often used in corporate networks, cloud environments and critical infrastructures to detect attacks such as DDoS, phishing or brute force attacks.
