Incremental backup

What is an incremental backup?

An incremental backup only backs up the data changes since the last backup, regardless of whether it is a full backup or a previous incremental backup. This method saves storage space and reduces the backup time as not all data is copied each time.

Advantages and areas of application

Incremental backups are particularly efficient as they minimize backup time and take up less storage space. They are ideal for cloud backups, companies with large amounts of data and daily backups. However, restoring can take longer as multiple incremental backups need to be combined. This method is often used as part of a 3-2-1 backup strategy to avoid data loss.
